13th Year Plan and
High School Planning Nights
Important Facts
We are asking students and parents/guardians to engage in an important conversation about plans beyond high school, see our brochure (204K PDF) for more details. To assist with planning each high school is hosting a High School Planning Night that will bring school resources together at one time. Students and parents together should seek out information from schools and programs they find interesting and that align with the student’s Graduation Plan (129K PDF).
To assist you with this process we have provided a guide below for your use to review the materials enclosed in this folder.
Please review the Graduation Plans (129K PDF). These plans need to be signed before students are issued high school classes:
- Plan A will prepare your child for completion of high school and entry into community or technical colleges. Note: Transferring to four-year colleges may require very intensive coursework. Additionally, this plan supports entry into the military, attendance at an Occupation Skills Center, and many positions at the apprentice level, such as NATEF (Auto Technology) and carpentry, as well as direct entry into the workforce upon graduation. This plan does not meet the requirements specified by the four-year colleges of the State of Washington or most other conventional colleges and universities.
- Plan B will prepare your child for entry into many of the 4-year public colleges if your child’s levels of achievement are adequate. This plan meets the requirement of the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB) of Washington State. Preplanning is recommended, as some financial aid requirements might not be met within this plan.
- Plan C will prepare your child for entry into many institutions of higher learning having more stringent admittance requirements. The requirements in this plan exceed those of the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB) of the State of Washington, and prepare your child for increased possibilities of receiving financial aid and scholarships including the Byrd Scholarships and the Academic Competitiveness Grants from the Federal Government. In addition, this plan will make your child eligible for the State Scholars Initiative.
Use the A.C.T. Explorer results (given out at each event, or at that school advisory class) as a tool for planning.
