Native American Education Program

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Native American Education Program (NAEP) is to assist our Native American students in succeeding with their educational process and to preserve and enlighten understanding of Native American cultures within the Federal Way community.

WHAT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED?

NAEP staff:

  • Provide academic assistance, advising, advocacy and resource referral for Native American students and families.
  • Offer cultural awareness opportunities and other resources to students, teachers and families.
  • Track Native American students' academic achievement.
  • The program staff are in regular contact with Native students and have a cooperative relationship with teachers and parents.

PROGRAM GOALS:

  • To improve the academic success of Native students, grades K-12.
  • Increase the knowledge and awareness of cultural values, traditions and contemporary issues relevant to Native students.
  • Increase parental participation in program and school activities.
  • Encourage and support post-secondary education for all students.
  • Preserve and enlighten understanding of the Native American culture with the Federal Way community.

STUDENT REGISTRATION:

The Native American Education Program provides services for all students and families regardless of the amount of Native ancestry. Federal policy allows parents to register their students in the Native American Education program by self-reporting tribal affiliation and does not require proof of tribal enrollment

To qualify your child for the program, complete a 506 certification form available from your school or Native American Education Coordinator. Services include, but are not limited to, academic monitoring and intervention, resource referral, advocacy and home/school liaison, mentoring and cultural programming. Please return the 506 form (44K PDF) to your child's school and mail it to:
